Listening Alongside

A series of three sound works featuring audio collected during workshops with local students and interviews with Nottingham Contemporary’s artist-educator team.

The piece explores listening within participatory art-making, as artists and students engage in shared exploration, uncertainty is welcomed, and words are not the only mode of expression.

The artists listened to students’ voices through making and conversations. This installation invites visitors to listen, make and consider, ‘How can we make space for listening?’

Listening Alongside was commissioned as part of Nottingham Contemporary’s education programme, New Ground which brings artists and teachers together to develop and share creative, inclusive practice.

With thanks to staff and students at Ambleside Academy, Denewood Academy and SHAPE Alternative Provision. In partnership with Raleigh Education Trust and generously supported by Freelands Foundation.
